chopped fresh quahogs
sea clams or other chopped clams

defatted fish broth
Preferably homemade

small onion
finely chopped (to yield 1/2 cup)

medium-size clove garlic

bay leaf

dried thyme leaves

ribs celery
trimmed and finely diced

large carrot
finely diced

medium-size yellow boiling potato
such as Yukon Gold or Yellow Finn, peeled and finely diced
Salt

freshly ground black pepper

chopped fresh parsley leaves
Instructions
Combine the quahogs, fish broth, onion, garlic, bay leaf, and thyme in a heavy 4-quart saucepan over high heat.
When the liquid boils, reduce the heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer for 10 minutes.
Add the celery, carrot, and potato and cook about 30 minutes longer.
Season with salt and pepper; stir in the parsley just before serving.
