Ingredients
- 2 cups barley flakes
- Salt and freshly milled pepper
- Butter or roasted nut oils
Instructions
- Toast the flakes in a dry skillet over medium heat, stirring frequently, until they smell good.
- Bring 2 cups water to a boil in a saucepan. Add 1/2 teaspoon salt, then the flakes. Cover the pot, lower the heat, and cook for 5 minutes.
- Turn off the heat and let stand for 5 minutes more.
- Fluff with a fork, add butter to taste, and season with pepper.
